Sing of America: Wood Engravings by Bernard Brussel-Smith

Bernard Brussel-Smith, American (1914-1989) created 43 illustrations for Tom Scott's book, "Sing of America", a collection of classic American Folk songs. Critic Jacob A. Evanson believed the illustrations illuminated "the songs with a magnificent freshness and vigor. They struck me as being distinctly outstanding, but more important, my artist friends...say there's nothing better in woodcuts today, and the book is worth its price for them alone." These illustrations provide a glimpse into Brussel-Smith's unique and often humorous portrayal of American Folk legends.

On exhibit May 12 - July 3rd, 2008: Sing of America: Wood Engravings by Bernard Brussel-Smith.
