Edition of 12. Plate 1 from the series The Caprichos. Inscribed in the plate top right: '1'; inscribed in the plate lower center: 'Emily Lombardo / Printer'. Numbered, signed, and dated in pencil.

Self portrait of the artist after Goya. Lombardo is described as 'the printer' and is wearing lower class garb. This positions the author as a working class female artist living in an age of reproduction; the platform of her work.

The Caprichos, by Emily Lombardo, is a series of etchings which are in direct conversation and homage to Francisco Goya's Los Caprichos, 1799. Both reveal the dark underbelly of cultural movements which ultimately serve to divide society across economic, racial, political, religious, and gender lines. Lombardo brings these issues into contemporary light through a queer feminist lens.

This edition was published by Childs Gallery and printed at The Center for Contemporary Printmaking (Norwalk, CT) by printer Paul Deruvo. Hahnemühle Copperplate Bright White paper and Portland Black ink where used for this edition.

Edition of 12. Three impressions of each plate available for individual sale. Nine suites sold as complete sets. Individual prints: $500 each / $600 framed. Suite of 80 prints plus frontispiece (states I and II) available as a boxed set for $27,500. Please inquire for availability.
