Bronze with Renaissance Brown and light Renaissance Brown patina. Number 6 of an edition of 12. Signed and inscribed on right side of upper base: "D. DE LuE sc 1980 © 1986 6/12 / Tx". Cast at the Tallix Foundry in Beacon, NY. Mounted on Imperial Black marble base measuring 2 1/8 x 11 1/4 x 11 3/4 inches. In fine condition. Note: Hand of God was actually modeled in 1967, but De Lue occassionally put the wrong date on the wax during the casting. See pags XI thru XIII of "The Sculpture of Donald De Lue/ Gods, Prophets, and Heroes" by D. Roger Howlett regarding issues concerning dating of sculptures. "Man in the hand of God was a theme that De Lue returned to many times, and which had also inspired other sculptors of the twentieth century. In this particularly fine example of De Lue's Michelangelesque style, the sculptor explores contraposto and the "figura serpentina" in a single work. Here also is a man created of the clay of the earth by God at the same time the sculptor creates the 'first man' with the same clay" from D. Roger Howlett "Donald De Lue: Gods, Prophets, and Heroes," 1990, pg. 185.
