Signed lower right: “A.Brook ’59”.Painted in Sag Harbor, Long Island in 1959. Adeline (Adaline) Glasheen was a writer. She was a friend of the artist and worked in literary circles with Thornton Wilder, with whom she published a book of letters about James Joyce, ‘A Tour of the Darkling Plain’. She was a penetrating critic of the works of James Joyce and is still studied for her insights into such works as “Finnegan’s Wake.”
