Bohn edition, reprinted in 1851 from the original copper plate and bound in the folio. Inscribed upper center: “Pub May 20th 1807 by HHumphrey 27 StJames Street”, upper right: “333”, lower left: “Js Gillray, inve &fec”, lower center caption: “Election-Candidates; or the Republican Goofe at the Top of the Pole/the Devil helping behind_Vide M Paul’s Letter_Article Horne Tooke_/_also an exact representation of Sawney McCockran flourishing the Cudgel of Naval Reform/lent to him by Cobbett; & mounting Triumphantly over a small Beer Barrel_together with an Old/Drury Lane Harlequin trying in vain to make a spring to ye Top of the Pole, his Broad-Bottom always/bringing him down again_and lastly, poor little Paul Taylor done over wounded by a Goofe and not a Leg to stand on.” A fine impression in fine condition aside from minor staining in margins and minor tear at lower left edge. Full margins except trimmed at left to plate mark. Another impression of this print is in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery. Print by Gillray verso: “Patriots deciding a point of honor”.
