Mellerio 186; Werner 164. According to Mellerio, only a few trial proofs were pulled and these are very rare. From the series Planches d’Essai (Test Plates). Artist’s monogram on the stone lower right: ‘OR’. A fine impression in fine condition, aside from adhesive remnants verso. Printed on BFK Rives wove paper. Sheet measures 12 3/4 x 10 inches. From the estate of Joseph and Marjorie Relkin.

One of four trial lithographs (one lost) commissioned by Ambrose Vollard for a never realized illustrated book, ‘Un coup de des jamais n’abolira le hasard’ [A Throw of the Dice Who Never Abolish Chance] by Stephane Mallarme.
