Titled verso: “San José”. Ex-collection Kennedy Galleries, Inc. Antigua Guatemala, a colonial capital of art and culture, was founded in 1543 and destroyed by an earthquake in 1773. The earthquake was so severe that it caused the capital to be moved to Guatemala City. Several ruined churches and monasteries sprinkled throughout the city attest to the violence of the damage.
