Signed and dated in pencil lower right: “H.J. Vernon / July 1866”. In fine condition aside from minor paper loss in upper right corner and very slight general toning.

H. John Vernon, was a regular draftsman for the London lithographic firm of Day & Haghe, Lith.rs to the Queen in the 1850s. He was active as a painter and draftsman from about 1840 to 1866.

The Zuydersee, an inlet of the North Sea, was principally closed off in the early 20th century by Dutch engineering.
