Bartsch 32; The Illustrated Bartsch 32; Delaborde 18; Shoemaker & Broun 50. Verso bears ink initials probably J. Bailey, (Lugt 1412). An early, rich and brilliant impression, most likely lifetime; the “oily” characteristic of the ink indicates a printing before the sack of Rome in 1527. Overall, in fine condition aside from slight scattered foxing and small rust stains throughout. Trimmed to within platemark; with complete image borderline and a minimum of 1mm margins all around. This impression is earlier and much stronger than the one found in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Ex-collection Michael Berolzheimer.

After a drawing from the early career of Raphael, probably executed c. 1506-1507 based on its association with Raphael’s Entombment. (Shoemaker)
