Von keller was born in Gais, Pusterhal in the Swiss Tyrol and went to Munich in Bavaria to study with Franz von Lenbach and Arthur von Ramberg at the Munich Academy. After school he worked in Paris where he spent several years before settling in Munich. There he bacame a professor at the Munich Academy. He won medals in the Munich and Berlin expositions and in the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1889 and 1900. He died in Munich.
