Signed in the plate center right: “Aug. Delatre”. A fine impression in fine condition. From the collection of Professor and Mrs. Daniel Bell, Cambridge, MA.
“Auguste Delatre was both an etcher in his own right and a highly respected printer of other artists etchings. He also gave lessons on etching technique and published a treatise on etching. The artists whose names appear on the prints of various styles floating down from his printing press were all people for whom he printed. They make an impressive list: Rops, Millet, Seymour Haden, Whistler, Tissot, Braquemond, Delacroix, and others.” – from “Prints About Prints,” by Diana Ewan Wolfe (No. 19).
