Signed in plate lower right (in reverse): “G.L. Brockhurst”. Inscribed in pencil in the lower left margin in the artist’s hand: “2nd state GLB.” According to Wright, “Proofs of early states which have passed from the artist’s possession almost invariably bear an indication of the state, in pencil, in the lower margin” (PCQ, 1977, p. 931). A fine impression bearing inky fingerprints in the margins, in fine condition aside from soft crease and small stain in lower right corner of sheet, printed on sheet measuring 11 1/2 x 9 1/4 inches. Plate destroyed. The artist’s first wife, Anais, was the model for this etching.
