Inscribed upper left “Hold ears back when eating.”Alfred William Strutt, a Briton born in New Zealand, studied at the South Kensington School of Art and under his father, artist William Strutt (1826-1915). Strutt accompanied King Edward VII on a hunting trip to Scandanavia. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of British Artists.
