Print By Lee Krasner: Primary Series: Pink Stone (also Called Rose Stone) At Childs Gallery

Lee Krasner

American (1908 - 1984)

Primary Series: Pink Stone (also called Rose Stone), 1969

Landau CR 532. Artist proof outside of the edition of 100. Inscribed lower left in pencil: “artist proof”; signed in pencil lower right: “Lee Krasner”. Commissioned by Marlborough and printed on Arches paper at Mourlot Graphics, New York. A fine impression in fine condition.

In 1969 Marlborough Galleries commissioned Krasner to create three lithographs, resulting in the artist’s Primary Series. The prints in the series are Pink or Rose Stone, Blue Stone, and Gold Stone. Characteristic of Krasner’s work, the prints feature splashes and drips, made by working directly on the lithographic stone with tusche. Krasner was pleased with the prints, so much so that they inspired further artistic exploration. Krasner went on to produce 9 additional lithographs (three in each color) by applying varying amounts of ink to the original stones. These prints were sold in portfolios titled Long Lines for Lee Krasner and came with a poem specifically written for the artwork by Richard Howard.
