Seated Nude or Bacchus, [after Giovanni Bellini, Italian (c.1430-1516), 16th century
Bartsch 6 iii/III (with buildings added between the vine and the left margin); The Illustrated Bartsch 6. A fine later impression of an exceedingly rare print, in fine condition, with margins extending at least ? inch beyond image borderline. On handmade laid paper dating from the late 18th or early 19th century.
According to Ghiotto and Pignatti, this Bacchus is believed to be derived from a lost drawing of a figure copied in reverse from Giovanni Bellini’s Resurrection in Berlin, executed between 1475-79 for the church of S. Michele in Isola a. Murano.
