The Homestead (August), c.1945
Watercolor on paper
Signed lower right: "John Whorf". Titled verso. In fine condition. John Whorf was one of the most accomplished American watercolorists. He could paint in virtually any "manner" that he wished. In this watercolor he treats a Cape Cod house...a favorite subject of Edward Hopper...with a style and technique reminiscent of two of his favorite artists, John Singer Sargent and Frank W. Benson.
