They carried her off!, from the Caprichos, 2014
Etching and aquatint
9×6 IN.

'This woman is being carried off with the hope of saving her. The carrier will never be relieved of this duty, as no one can lift high enough or carry far enough to remove her from the mischief that has already been done.' The Caprichos, by Emily Lombardo, is a series of etchings which are in direct conversation and homage to Francisco Goya's Los Caprichos, 1799. Both reveal the dark underbelly of cultural movements which ultimately serve to divide society across economic, racial, political, religious, and gender lines. Lombardo brings these issues into contemporary light through a queer feminist lens.
