Bianca was a Black trans woman who was murdered in an act of anti-trans violence, circa early-mid 1980s. Black transgender individuals are disproportionately impacted by anti-transgender violence. McCall calls attention to this issue while also celebrating the positive aspects of Bianca’s life. Hence, for this collage he selected a photo of her smiling and wrapped her in a colorful array of buttons, in particular yellow, which denotes joy.
