Louis Bonaparte (1778-1846) was the brother of Napoléon Bonaparte. He was very close to Napoléon during his early campaigns, fighting with him in Italy and France. In 1805 he commanded the French troops in Holland and was crowned king of Holland in 1806. He split with Napoléon over the issue of Continental Trade, deeming it unfair to Holland, and in 1810 gave up his crown.
