This building, usually called the Brick Market, was built in 1762 by Peter Harrison for the Town of Newport. Rental income supported a granary, and the building itself served as a market house and theatre, later as City Hall and as a succession of privately owned shops and galleries. It is still owned by the city, and is home to the Museum of Newport History, installed by the Newport Historical Society in 1993.
