Signed and dated lower left: “Rowlandson 1807”. Inscribed on the sign at right: “Peter Pidcock / Dealer in / Birds & Beasts / Rats Destroyed / Dogs Broke In”. Watercolor in blue, gray, and beige over graphite, on wove paper. In fine condition, recently conserved. Please contact gallery for full condition report.
Pidcock was a well known dealer in animals during this period. A less finished and undated version of this watercolor is in the collection of Yale Center for British Art.
