In the heart of Dodge City is Boot Hill, the burial ground for those adventurers who passed away with their boots on. In the brief funeral accorded them, their boots were not removed. This Cowboy Statue, made of cement by the late Dr. C. H. Simpson, a dentist of Dodge City, was erected on Boot Hill by the city commission some years ago. On the base of the statue is carved the allegorical epigram,”On the ashes of my campfire this city is built.”
