In addition to working at the sex shop Fantasy World, Tony was also a bartender in the 1980s at The Smart Place, one of the few Black LGBTQ+ friendly bars in Philadelphia, PA. Venues such as The Smart Place served as a haven for Black LGTBQ+ people and provided a place where they could build community and express themselves.
